bengal

A product of successful crossing of a wild Asian Leopard cat with a domestic cat, the Bengal is a unique beautiful breed that has inherited the exotic markings of an untamed line, brought up in its natural habitat and the docility and manageability of the household variety. Long and sleek, this medium to large-sized cat has a dense and very soft, lush (and even glittering) coat that comes in various colors. All Bengal cats have markings, spots, swirls and/or marblings; making them look so much like tiny wild leopards. While the preferred colors include black/brown marbled or black/brown spotted (now, also spotted white or snow marbled), the markings are often random but which aligns flatly with peacock-like rosettes that create a marbled pattern or that form a semi-circle. Bengal cats have broad heads, wide muzzles, high cheekbones and noticeable whisker pads. Their wide round eyes (which are enhanced by dark markings around it as in mascara) are complemented by a pair of small, round-tip ears. Some of its most essential features include its muscular, athletic build and slightly longer back legs which make their hind end appear a bit higher than their shoulders. Bengals have the grace of a jungle cat accorded with its ability to move stealthily and quietly.

Temperament

Due to the breed’s feral ancestry, Bengal cats are often presumed to be quite difficult to handle. Luckily, the opposite is true. Although this cat is not generally a lap kind, breeders agree that their line is affectionate and can be tamed very easily. Bengals may appear like wild cats, but breeders are firm about these cats being just as friendly and gentle as any full-blooded domestic feline. It likes to cuddle and loves the company of their human friends; enjoying the closeness with them. Bengal cats specifically revel in the company of children as their energetic character makes it fond of playing various games. Having retained the tracking trait from its wild lineage, this curious, bouncy, and gregarious breed is also said to possess an exceptional hunting instinct for both tiny land creatures and water-dwelling animals. Unafraid of water, Bengal cats will love to go for a dip in the water with its family.

Health Concerns

Healthy and vigorous, the Bengal is a hale and hearty breed that has no widely reported medical issue up till now. The cat’s so recent wild lineages crossed with downright impertinent domestic kinds provide the Bengal a particular health boost known as the “hybrid vigor”. No wonder, their kind can live for as long as 15 years or even longer.

Best Environment

Being the kind that’s full of beans, Bengal cats somehow need lots of play time. Since most extremely energetic cats love to jump to high spots, you would have to keep breakable objects off your open shelves or cupboards as much as possible. The Bengal is almost always considered to be an indoor cat due to the fact that even their close feral ancestry doesn’t make them especially suitable for a free-roaming, outdoor lifestyle. Keep this cat happy and occupied by providing him with a rousing environment designed to offer him a continuous influx of distractions and activities like the use of new toys, scratching posts and climbing trees.
