You may recall reading about the Guinness Book of World Records’ Oldest Living Cat, Corduroy, a 27-year-old cat from Sisters, Oregon. Corduroy was born on August 1, 1989. He’s owned by Ashley Reed Okura who has had him since she was just 7 years old and he was just a tiny kitten.

Okura credited Corduroy’s longevity to “letting him roam the property and catch critters and get exercise.” Sadly, though, he ran away from his home in Oregon seven weeks ago and hasn’t been seen since. They presume he has passed away. Okura posted the sad news to the cat’s 18,600 Instagram followers:

“We miss him terribly and I hold out hope he will return,” she said. “Logically, Corduroy won’t come home.”

Okura held onto hope that her record-setting feline companion would return home, but expressed gratitude for the long life he led.

“I am grateful we had an unbelievable, special, 27 years together,” she said.
