Hasbro, the makers of the popular board game, Monopoly, held an online contest called “Save your Token” in which fans from 185 countries voted to keep their favorite game piece and replace the least popular one with a new piece. Monopoly players proved to also be huge animal lovers, when they chose the familiar Scottie Dog token as the most popular and also voted to replace the (least popular) iron with a new piece – a CAT!

The feline token won with a 31% vote over it’s competition – a robot, a guitar, a helicopter and a diamond ring.

USA Today reported:

“We know that cat lovers around the world will be happy to welcome the new cat token into the Monopoly game,” said Eric Nyman, senior vice president and global brand leader for Hasbro Gaming, in a statement. “While we’re a bit sad to see the iron go, the cat token is a fantastic choice by the fans and we have no doubt it will become just as iconic as the original tokens.”

If you’re ready to replace that iron with the new kitty piece, it’ll join the wheelbarrow, shoe, race car, battleship, top hat, thimble, and (the most popular) Scottie dog in Monopoly games that appear on shelves in late summer.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to see our feline friends getting the recognition they deserve. We just wonder…will they install a litter box in the jail?
