BREAKING: Vet Fired After Bragging About Killing a Cat on Facebook

Never underestimate the power of social media. Especially at the hands of angry animal lovers.

Source: Facebook. This post and page has since been removed.

This Austin County, Texas veterinarian Kristen Lindsey publicly posted a photo of herself on Facebook proudly holding up a cat she had shot and killed with a bow and arrow along with the words,

My first bow kill lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it’s head. Vet of the year award…gladly accepted!

The photo quickly went viral and, not surprisingly, authorities, local rescue groups and the clinic where Lindsey was employed were notified. KBTX Media reported that the veterinarian was fired from her job at the Washington Animal Clinic in Brenham after they received over 500 phone calls about the disturbing photograph.

Additionally, Lindsey could be facing animal abuse charges. One of Lindsey’s neighbors has a pet, Tiger, who has strikingly similar markings and had been missing from the same area for two days before this photo surfaced. At this time there is no confirmation it’s the same cat.

Either way, feral or not, it is against the law to kill a cat – and even more despicable that it was done this way, at the hands of a veterinarian who has the means to euthanize a pet humanely.

According to My San Antonio News, Lindsey’s Facebook page has since been deleted and calls to her previous employer are now going unanswered.

UPDATE: For those who wish to follow the ongoing story, several Facebook pages have been created, including “Justice for Tiger The Cat Murdered by Kristen Lindsey” and “Justice for Cat Murdered by Kristen Lindsey“.

There are also at least two petitions circulating, urging veterinary boards to revoke Ms. Lindsey’s DVM license. At the time of this update, both are very close to their signature goals:
