Straight from the WTF files, a New Zealand taxidermist Claire Hobbs has listed an unusual item for sale on the auction site Trade Me. It’s a handbag made from the pelt of a dead cat. Listed as “A Real Glamour Puss Purse,” the ad says:

A very stylish handbag …for the girl that has everything a one off purse that will grab attention where ever you go
This handbag will last for years and years as long as it is looked after.
The purse strap is easily changed to suit your taste….

This is not for the faint hearted…….
no animals were killed or hurt to create this piece

Ms Hobbs told Stuff the bag was made from a feral cat that was “hit by a car on backwash country road”. She kept it in her freezer for three months before transforming it into a bag.

The listing has attracted a number of negative comments from cat lovers who find the piece disturbing:

This is disgusting.. Not the slightest bit creative or artistic

That is sick !! I love animals and you are totally disrespecting them !!!

This is disrespectful to someone’s cat who was once a loved pet. Morally wrong and in poor taste,

So you want to not only make your beloved pet into a bag,but you want to sell it too?…how crass on many levels….yuck!!!!

The auction listing has it’s fair share of supporters, too. The purse is listed for sale with a starting bid of $1,400 and so far has no bids.
