In the video above, produced by the Animal Hope shelter in Texas that’s treating him, the male cat — who was tortured in an apparent “religious ritual,” according to Fort Worth police — purrs as a worker explains on camera what happened to him. Last Sunday, police in Fort Worth were dispatched to Harrison Cemetery, where the fire department had discovered a cat that appeared to be burnt during a religious ritual or sacrifice after a nearby resident reported a grass fire. Detectives believe the cat may have been used in some sort of ritual ceremony, possibly a ‘Santa Muerte’ ritual sacrifice. Candles, a crucifix, peppers and other items were scattered around the grave site.

The cat, named “Po,” was in really bad shape when he was taken to Animal Hope in Fort Worth, an organization that cares for injured and abused animals. The cat is in grave condition, but, those caring for Po said he has started to eat, which is a good sign. They say he’s a fighter.

Police are checking a water bottle they found for fingerprints and other items for DNA evidence that may lead to whoever stabbed Po and then set him on fire. They’re hoping someone will come forward with information. If you know anything, you are urged to contact detectives at 817-392-3909.

We will follow Po’s story and update with his progress. Keep fighting, Po!
