You filled up on turkey and stuffing, you shopped. Maybe there was one more thing on your list of things to do this holiday weekend: head to the ASPCA. The organization held its sixth annual “Cat Friday” event on Friday in Manhattan. On this special day, the ASPCA Adoption Center waived all fees for cat adoptions! Every kitty adopted from the ASPCA comes spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped. Plus, any new pet parents who adopted a cat over one-year-old on “Cat Friday” also got a free hard carrier!
Needless to say, the event was a HUGE hit – resulting in what the ASPCA says is a “record-breaking number of adoptions” in a single day. This was the rescue’s 6th annual event, and the most popular to date. On Friday, 89 cats, plus a dog, found homes, and 44 animals who aren’t ready to go home yet were placed on adoption holds.
An ASPCA spokesperson explained to Gothamist:
“that in addition to the 90 animals who slept in their new homes last night, we had so many people come out to adopt that we ran out of available animals and 44 more animals already have adopters lined up and will soon be going home as well. So, the success of the event will be felt for days and weeks to come.”
While lots of cats got homes in time for the holidays, there are still many that are still available and looking for their own humans. See the ASPCA’s available cats and dogs here.
