Bobby Flay is an American celebrity chef, restaurateur, and reality television personality. You probably know him best from TV’s Iron Chef and Throwdown with Bobby Flay, or one of his many restaurants including Mesa Grill and Bobby’s Burger Palace. But, a lot of his fans don’t know – Bobby Flay is a lifelong cat lover!
In an article he wrote for CBS, Bobby told of how his mother was (and still is) obsessed with cats while he was growing up. They were the closest thing he had to siblings. His favorite was a red tabby named Pumpkin because it matched his red hair!
He wrote:
Until I moved out of my Mom’s house at 19, these felines were part of my every day and night. I missed them when I was away, and I cherished the moment of opening the front door when they would all gather to welcome me home.
As an adult, I had a 30-year drought without a cat in my home life. It was easy for me to make the excuse that I was never home. But what I was really nervous about was handling the responsibility of taking care of a new kitten — and making a 15-20 year commitment to a living, breathing creature.
Well, Bobby finally got a cat. And if you follow him on Instagram, you’ve already met Nacho, his red (of course) Maine Coon kitty. Nacho is two-years-old and already weighs 20-pounds! He travels with Bobby everywhere he goes, and Bobby says he’s food motivated. With a world-class chef as your human companion, wouldn’t you be food-motivated, too?
Of his friendship with Nacho, Bobby says:
He knows when I’m feeling a little under the weather or I’m having a case of the blues. He makes me a softer and more understanding person just by his presence and affection.
