Guiness World Records has officially announced Scooter, the 30-year-old Siamese from Mansfield, Texas as the oldest living cat – crushing the record previously held by 26-year-old Corduroy from Oregon.

Scooter was born on March 26, 1986, and lives with his human Gail Floyd, who has been by his side since the day he was born. According to Guinness:

As a kitten, Scooter liked to play in Gail’s hair and even became accustomed to riding on her shoulder, going with her wherever she went. Nowadays, nothing has changed. He wakes Gail up every morning at 6 AM, “talking” and jumping around, and is always waiting by the door when she arrives home from work.

Scooter enjoys getting blow dried after a bath and his favourite snack is chicken – which he gets every other day. What’s the secret to Scooter’s longevity? Gail believes keeping him active is what keeps him happy and he’s traveled to 45 of the 50 states!

Scooter isn’t the oldest cat on record, by a long shot. He still has a few years to go to pass the record for the Oldest Cat Ever, Crème Puff, who was born in 1967 and lived until 2005 – an incredible 38 years and 3 days! (Amazing, considering the average lifespan of cats is 15 years). We’re rooting for you, Scooter!
