Terry Lauerman is giving us all retirement goals. The 75-year old man visits Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary every day and takes naps with the resident cats!
Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is a cage-free shelter that takes in cats that would otherwise be euthanized. Terry didn’t plan to be a professional cat-napper. He went to the Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary six months ago to groom the kitties.
Founder Elizabeth Feldhausen told the HuffPost: “He just walked in and started brushing.
“So eventually we told him he was an official volunteer and had him fill out our volunteer form.”
Terry visits the sanctuary every day and visits his feline friends. And, while he’s brushing them he has a tendency to fall asleep. Charmed, the staff at Safe Haven dedicated a Facebook post to Terry.
“We are so lucky to have a human like Terry. Terry just came along one day and introduced himself. He said he’d like to brush cats. Eventually it became everyday. He brushes all of the cats, and can tell you about all of their likes and dislikes. He also accidentally falls asleep most days. We don’t mind – Cats need this! Terry is a wonderful volunteer. 😻❤️🐾#nappingencouraged #grateful”
Naturally, the post went viral. When told about his newfound fame, Terry was shocked. He said he doesn’t have a Facebook page – he can barely keep up with emails! Terry said, “Now if all of those people would just donate $5 to help the kitties, that would make such a big difference!” He also said we should all pray for him to win the lottery so he can donate it to his cat friends.
All this attention has helped raise thousands of dollars for the shelter! Way to go, Terry!
