On Thursday, the Maryland Department of Agriculture issued a stop sale order on a single lot of Stella & Chewy’s “Chewy’s Chicken” Freeze-Dried Dinner Patties for Dogs (Lot # 111-15) because they detected Listeria monocytogenes in the product.
Due to that finding, Stella & Chewy’s are voluntarily recalling all products from that lot number and a number of other products that may have been exposed to that lot.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Animals that become ill with Listeria could display symptoms similar to the ones listed above for humans. If you suspect your pet has been exposed to Listeria, you should contact your veterinarian.
