Shelter Cats in Toronto Get Much Needed Relief from PetSmart Canada, Halo and Freekibble.com

It’s springtime in Toronto, Ontario, which means it’s also kitten season. With so many new mouths to feed, nursing mama cats need good quality nutrition. Thanks to PetSmart Canada, Halo, Purely for Pets and Freekibble.com – a web site dedicated to helping pets in need – the Toronto Feral Cat Coalition will have plenty of high quality, nutrition food to help the cats in their care.

The Toronto Feral Cat Coalition is a group of 8 member organizations dedicated to caring for stray and abandoned felines in the Toronto metro area. They also advocate for Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) and train colony caretakers.

Recently, a team from Toronto Animal Services, which is a member of the coalition, picked up a large donation of premium cat food at a Toronto area PetSmart.

The 50,000-meal donation is courtesy of Halo, Purely for Pets and Freekibble.com. The much-needed food will be used by the 8 organizations within the coalition to feed the cat colonies in their care, including nursing mother cats and kittens once they are weaned.

The donation delivered in Toronto won’t just benefit cats, though. In addition to the 50,000 meals of cat food, Freekibble.com and Halo also donated 25,000 meals of dog food to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)’s Northern Dogs Project, which provides food, supplies and veterinary care to rural Northern Canadian communities.

This is the first donation Halo and Freekibble.com have made in Canada. Founded in 2008 by an 11-year-old girl, Freekibble.com is where animal lovers can go each day to answer a pet-related trivia question. For each answer, right or wrong, Freekibble.com donates 10 pieces of kibble to animals in need. Halo is the official kibble sponsor.

To date, Freekibble.com has donated more than 14.5 million meals to animals in the U.S.  Now, thanks to help from PetSmart Canada, Freekibble.com is now able to benefit Canadian pets in need.
